After a successful amateur career, Mel Sole turned professional in 1966. After 2 years as an assistant at Royal Johannesburg GC, he became the Head Professional at Rustenberg GC. In 1969 he started playing on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa and played for 10 years. Mel moved to Humewood GC in Port Elizabeth in 1977 and in 1984 immigrated to Toronto, Canada. In 1989 at the request of his friend and mentor Phil Ritson, Mel moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. After running a golf school for one year, he opened his own school at Pawleys Plantation GC in Pawleys Island, SC and has run his golf school there ever since. He has been rated in the Top 5 Golf Schools in the USA by GOLF Magazine and a top 4 instructor in the state of South Carolina. Awards. Ranked in the “Top 5” of GOLF Magazines annual Top 25 Schools. One of only 4 Schools that have remained on this prestigious list since 1999. Received Certificate of Excellence Award from Tripadvisor.com for 5 continuous years. Golf Magazine said, “This School has been doing this longer and better than any other school in the US!” Mel Sole is a Master Professional with the South African PGA. Only the second person to be awarded this while living outside of South Africa.
