JACK NICKLAUS SIGNATURE GOLF COURSE
Golf isn’t everything at Desert Highlands, but for many, the highlight of a Desert Highlands membership is the ability to play a highly acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Among the accolades bestowed upon Desert Highlands: Golf Digest ranked Desert Highlands one of the top desert golf courses in the country. Desert Highlands was also the site of the first two Skins Games in 1983 and 1984. When you play this course, you walk in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Gary Player.
The “Golden Bear” designed this course to invite players of all levels to enjoy the challenge, while also savoring a setting that is nothing less than magnificent. Pinnacle Peak looms just overhead and the lights of the Valley spread across the horizon in the distance below. A dramatic elevated tee box on the first hole sets the tone on this 18-hole, par-72 golf course that plays 7,108 yards from the tips. To enhance the desert effect, turf has been used judiciously, which has resulted in a desert design concept enhancing the natural environment, creating a course that is challenging and enjoyable for players of all levels. With major desert areas abutting the fairways and greens, the turf limitation only heightens the visual drama of the course. The result is reminiscent of a soft-flowing green carpet draped across rugged landforms.
18 HOLE PROFESSIONALLY DESIGNED PUTTING COURSE
Back in the mid-1980s, Desert Highlands made golf industry headlines by becoming the first club in the U.S. (and second in the world) to install an 18-hole professionally designed putting course. The extensive (par-41) putting course is a Gary Panks design that features more than 60,000 square feet of lush putting surface. Desert Highlands residents and their guests can hone their putting skills in a pleasurable and relaxing manner in the midst of some of the finest scenery in the Southwest.
